Security notice — July 30, 2026. Coinkite disclosed a firmware flaw affecting seed generation on several Coldcard models (Mk3, Mk4, Mk5, and Q), traced to a 2021 build error that silently fell back to a predictable software random number generator instead of the hardware one. Patched firmware is available for every affected model, but it cannot repair a seed already generated under the flaw — affected wallets need funds moved to a newly generated seed. Reported losses vary by source and the investigation was still open as of early August 2026. Check Coinkite's official advisory before trusting an existing seed.
